Need to Know - Acne Products Warning

Cancer-causing chemical can form at ‘unacceptably high levels’ in certain acne products.

High levels of benzene, a cancer-causing chemical, can form in acne treatment products containing benzoyl peroxide, according to a new report from Valisure, an independent laboratory.

On Tuesday, Valisure sent a citizen petition to the FDA in which the lab described an initial analysis of 175 acne treatment products, finding that 99 of them contained benzoyl peroxide, and among those products specifically, native benzene was detected in 94.

Last year, the FDA alerted drug manufacturers about the risk of benzene contamination in certain products such as some hand sanitizers and aerosol drug products, noting that benzene is a known human carcinogen that causes leukemia and other blood disorders.

Need to know - Amazing Benefits of Oil Pulling

What is oil pulling? A how-to guide, potential benefits you could see from the health trend..

Used primarily in Ayurvedic medicine, oil pulling — known as gandusha in Ayurveda — is a fantastic oral detoxification procedure that’s simply done by swishing a tablespoon of oil (typically coconut oil) in your mouth for 10–20 minutes.

Oil pulling works by cleaning (detoxifying) the oral cavity in a similar way that soap cleans dirty dishes. It literally sucks the dirt (toxins) out of your mouth and creates a clean, antiseptic oral environment that contributes to the proper flow of dental liquid that’s needed to prevent cavities and disease.

The Key Benefits:
1 - Reduce harmful mouth bacteria (research)
2 - Reduce bad breath
3 - May help prevent cavities
4 - Reduce inflammation and gum health
5 - Tooth Whitening (avoid chemical whiteners!) (research)

``Health Tips - Power of Caffeine

Higher blood caffeine levels linked to lower obesity and osteoarthritis risk

According to the latest research, more than 1 billion around the world — both adults and children — have obesity.

Obesity can increase a person’s risk for several health problems, including joint conditions such as osteoarthritis. This is because when a person carries too much weight, it puts additional strain on the knees, hips, and ankles.

Now, researchers from Imperial College London in the United Kingdom and from the University of Copenhagen in Denmark have found that higher levels of caffeine in the blood over a long period may help protect the body against both obesity and joint disease.

At the conclusion of the study, the researchers found that long-term increases in circulating caffeine may help lower body weight and a person’s risk of osteoarthrosis and osteoarthritis.

How To Prevent Sarcopenia & Retain Muscle As You Age

What is Sarcopenia?

Sarcopenia (from the Greek sarx, "flesh," and penia, "poverty") describes the rapid loss of muscle mass and function.

Studies estimate that between 5% and 16% of people over the age of 65 have sarcopenia, though board-certified obesity medicine physician Ali Novitsky, M.D., thinks it may be even more common than research suggests. "By the age of 60, I would say on average, it affects 20% of people. By the time we hit 80, it's about 50%," she tells mindbodygreen.

Is it preventable?

Experts predict that sarcopenia will only become more common in the future as people are increasingly sedentary and tethered to technology. The rise of GLP-1 agonists like Ozempic could also indirectly contribute to declines in muscle mass. Novitsky, who often works with patients on GLP-1s, notes that up to 25% of every pound of weight lost can be lean mass if the medications aren't paired with a healthy lifestyle.
